"Like Dylan In The Movies..."

""GUESS WHO'S BACK, BACK AGAIN...???" Bonjour mes amies!! Did you miss me? (the answer is of course yes and not "we didn't realise you were gone") I had a lovely week's hiatus and am relaxed, refereshed and excited to be back blogging, it feels like I never left. However it means that I may be a bit behind in replying to all your wonderful comments so please bare with me darlings. Righty ho, now the pleasantries are over, lets get back to business.

You all know that I turned the big one-eight two weeks ago, and it is becoming apparent that each biological milestone brings with it a fashion milestone too. I read my first copy of Teen Vogue aged 12, British Vogue aged 16, American Vogue and i-D aged 17 and eighteen marks my first purchase of French Vogue. I do not know what took me so long. Well actually, I do. La langue française. As an aspiring magazine editor, I'm someone who sits and reads magazines word for word, cover to cover. I think I was waiting until my French was good enough that I actually understood what I was reading and wasn't just looking at the pictures. My French may not be anywhere near parfait, but it's good enough for me and I can understand about 75% of it which isn't half bad, even if I do say so myself.

I bought the May Vogue Paris issue which is basically completely centered around the gorgeous Penelope Cruz who guest edited the issue and who, after 'reading' it, is officially my new girl crush. In addition to the standard interview with her (Penelope sits in a café, sipping a lemonade and wearing a white T-shirt and jeans...you know the type darlings), it features her personal photographs, thoughts, friends, favourite music and books, and the inspiration for this post, her favourite, most inspirational actresses. The issue has a collage of her favourite starlets in their most iconic roles and got me thinking not just about my favourite actresses, but rather my favourite, most iconic movie fashion moments. So I thought it would be immense if I shared some of them with you:

Audrey Hepburn - Breakfast At Tiffanys
Kate Hudson - How To Lose  A Guy In Ten Days
Sarah Jessica Parker - Sex And The City Movie
Audrey Hepburn - Funny Face
Zooey Deschanel - 500 Days of Summer
Anne Hathaway - The Devil Wears Prada
Audrey Tautou - Coco Avant Chanel

So darlings, what are your magic movie fashion moments? Have any of your super stylish icons influenced your own style?
The break also allowed me to spend time on the computer doing other things (read, drooling over fashion sites) and I stumbled across a fabulous site 'Buy It Right Here' that has all you could possibly want to know about Ugg Boots and comfortable fashion.  In a weird twist of fate, a few days later, the sites owner contacted me wondering whether I would be interested in offering my fabulous readers (uk/usa/eu) a $30 discount code to which I said "hell yes". So darlings, if any of you are interested in purchasing Ugg Boots then visit the site, the code you need to get your 30% credit is: 511ROSE and you can use it any time between now and the next two weeks (until 18th May) so happy Ugging lovelies!

I have a very exciting week ahead which I hope to fill you in on soon, in the meantime hope you all have an inmmense week.
Its so good to be back.

Stay safe and chic mes chéries,
English Rose x

  1. Wow, we have basically exactly the same favorite fashion movies!! Which is very funny because just this weekend I watched "Coco" for the first time. I loved the fashion, but I don't think the real movie was that well made-too many bad-acted (by the men) romance scenes.

I loved Kate Hudson in that yellow dress and Anne Hathaway Gorgeous!
Be careful about that UGG site I am very skeptical since my husband unknowingly bought me Fake UGGs during the Holidays at a screaming deal too. It was a bummer because we could not find a way to return them:(
    Anyways love your posts!

  7. so happy you have returned.

my favorite fashion moments in film... that's a loaded question... fashion and film are my two very most favorite things in the world, so this should be easy... but let's see... kate winslet in the purple hat and white/purple pinstriped suit in titanic. i may not love the movie, but that shot still gives me goosebumps. and audrey hepburn in sabrina, the huge gown she wears to the party when she returns from paris. too many more to mention :) great post.

  8. Nice to see you back. :) I'm glad you had a fabulous 18th birthday. I find it very appropriate that such a fabulous gal as yourself would celebrate with a copy of French Vogue. So classy! ;)

I love your movie fashion inspirations. Mine are similar, especially Anne Hathaway in TDWP. Another fave of mine is Confessions of a Shopaholic. Those coats...oh, I die. Hehe.

I love your movie inspiration list and I must say, Audrey Hepburn is definitely on my list for being in Breakfast at Tiffany's. So many great outfits and looks in that movie, even when she's at her most casual, she always looked incredibly elegant.
I also need to include Grace Kelly in Rear Window. Every single outfit she wore, I instantly wanted to wear too!

The only movie I watched was 'The Devil Wears Prada', was okay. Hmm, I'd say that I prefer to be me than be inspired by someone =) And, thanks for leaving your lovely thoughts.

  26. For me its gotta be sex in the city, and the devil wears Prada. I've never seen any of the older films like breakfast at Tiffany's or anything like that. Other than that Madonna is a real icon for me and so is Michael Jackson. I think most people draw a little of their style form them.

My style icon... Def Audrey Hepburn. I know that nearly every gal says that, but there is a reason people are drawn to her. Now, if only I could have a navy colored vespa, i'd be on my way.

  33. Don't apologize for taking a break, we all need a little vaca sometimes :) You picked some great fashion moments here for films! Hmm one of my faves would have to be the costumes in this Chinese movie, Love, Caution - the 40s style are so point!

  34. Loved Anne H in Devil Wears Prada! She actually inspired me to become more creative with my clothing (I know, that wasn't the point of the movie, but all her flashy outfits distracted me okay?!). I saw it in Sewing and Textiles in gr 9, and have totally changed my style to Sporty-LivesInSneakers-Girl to All-Around-Stylish-Gal(who sometimes makes fashion faux pas, but who doesn't?)

    Thanks for visiting!

Welcome back! I missed you! :D

we saw Anne Hathaway at Coachella a few weeks ago... we were taking style pics and at the same time said "damn! that dress is amazing..." then realized it was her and didn't feel like being those girls that take shots of actresses (though we really just cared about her vintage white lace dress and very handsome boyfriend)...
lots of love from us to you!
